#HEYGRRRLFRENNNS I am completely blissed out on grrrl power right now! We just wrapped our first EVER #GrrrlsNightIn🪩🍸 Instagram live event last week and it was SUCH an incredible experience seeing all of the grrrlies for the first time!! I really can’t describe the feeling. Like I’m not gonna lie, and not just because I am contractually obligated to try and be as honest as possible, at first I was feeling a little seasick about being on live camera for the first time in my life. All types of questions were going through my head like What if the grrrls don’t like me? What should I wear?? What do I do with my hands!? Long story short, I was a nervous wreck but everything changed when you all joined! I lowkey blacked out from the initial stage fright but I do remember that we all had an amazing time. Having the opportunity to speak to all of you reminded me that we are literally just getting started and there is a lot more radical content on the way and fun times for all of us together, which brings me to this week’s blog post!
I’m not sure if it’s a delayed sugar rush from #GrrrlsNightIn🪩🍸 or the summer sun making me a little more delusional than usual, but I have reached a point in my life where I’m starting to care a little less about all the little things that were holding me back, and I am (finally!) ready to start having fun creating the life I have always wanted to live, and since grrrls wanna have fun, I know you were thinking the same thing! If there was ever a time to act bad, aka prioritize your pleasure, it’s the summer! The sun is staying out for a little longer these days and I think we should take advantage of it while we can. So this week, I want to talk about how to recognize the signs that you are in serious need of some fun.
Same Old, Same Old
I think this is probably the easiest sign that you need to get up and shake your life up like a salt shaker. Y’all remember that one episode of Spongebob when Squidward was mad bored just going through the motions of life? Grrrl, you know the episode with the canned bread! Take a blog break and watch it here! Well, if you feel like your life is starting to look like that, then take that as a sign that you are in serious need of flavaaaah! There is absolutely nothing wrong with creating routines or finding comfort in having a structured day, but there should also be a sense of balance. First of all, if you’ve mastered scheduling your day to include tackling the lil boring responsibilities like cleaning the lint dryer, meal prepping, or shaving your legs you need to teach me your ways! The good news is that you have the hard part down, now all you have to do is remember to pencil in some fun. There are plenty of things you can do for fun as you wait for your clothes to be done in the dryer like stepping outside for a little bit, grabbing some lunch to go, or if you put the dryer on the extra high setting you might be able to sit and stay awhile. I know that change can be hard, but there is no need to be drastic, remember you can always start small. Even doing everything on your to-do list in a different order could be a new and interesting take on being productive!
Going, Going, Ghost!
There are soo many reasons for going ghost, and most of them aren’t very fun. I am the number one advocate for prioritizing your peace but not at the price of your pleasure. You have the right to do what you want with your time, body, and energy. If you feel like you need to take space for yourself absolutely do it as long as you are not hurting yourself, or anyone around you. The potential downside on doing this is that sometimes when we experience hurt or discomfort we then avoid the source of the pain. Sometimes this is good, as in avoiding touching hot stoves, avoiding dating emotionally unavailable people or avoiding watching the end of the Titanic. Jack! Come BACK! But I think we can all agree that sometimes this puts us in danger of entering a hermit mode where we are stopping ourselves from being open to new opportunities. This is where practicing the power of discernment becomes soo important grrrls, you know yourselves best. If you’re not quite ready, that’s perfectly fine because as we know it IS possible to have fun by yourself, but If you’re ready to leave the nest then spread your wings and fly towards the fun! OOH! Or you could have the best of both worlds and find fun ways to spend time with yourself outside. I think the museum or even going to the movies are both perfect spots to have some fun incognito. Even if someone did spot you, it’s not like they could say anything about it because those are both places people are generally expected to be quiet but on the off chance that someone does mess with you tell them to I said to stfu and let the grrrls live!
All Work, No Play
Sorry miss grrrl, but If Gabrielle Union would play you in a movie this one is for you! Relax, it was just a joke!! Why so serious? To be completely honest, I can’t laugh too hard because I’m actually right there with you. My attitude has turned a corner and I have gained a new perspective on prioritizing having fun in my life in ways that feel authentic to me but I’m lowkey just talking the talk right now. As I type this, I have at least fifty-leven different browsers up, thirty email drafts to finish, three homework assignments, two missed calls, and zero time for fun. Being a very busy grrrl has its perks but grrrlbossing too close to the sun can result in feeling too stressed or tired to do anything outside of achieving maximum efficiency. If your stress levels are through the roof and you can relate to this I want you to join me in turning the computer monitor off, leaving a few emails unanswered, and dare i say…. burning our pinchy bras!? I’m ready to live life to the fullest and I can’t do that if I am chained to my desk. I think what is important for those with an all work, no play attitude to realize is that what is for us will not miss us. How can the universe repay us for all of our hard work if we can’t sit still long enough to receive it? You better claim it grrrl!
There are a lot of demands of us from all different directions and soo many people that sometimes it can feel like having fun has formed a permanent position on the back burner of our lives, which is just another example of how easy it is to put yourself and your pleasure last. I’m here to remind yuo that your life is YOURS to live! YOU are the center of your life! Everything in your life revolves around YOU! You are more than deserving of creating time and space to not only live life, but to make sure that you actually enjoy it. You have a right to take an interest in developing yourself and that includes your personal life as well. Please don’t let anyone convince you that is selfish or stop you from having fun creating the life you’ve always wanted to live! Thank you all again for coming to the #GrrrlsNightIn🪩🍸 Instagram live event, I am sincerely in love with the lil community we are growing and I can’t wait to create more opportunities for us to have fun together!
