#HEYGRRRLFRENNNS, we’re still riding this Who’s That Grrrl? wave because we refuse to let history forget the Black women who knew self-care was revolutionary. 💅🏾✨ And today, we’re talking about a grrrl who made it her business to live big, bold, and unapologetically fabulous—A’Lelia Walker. 💎🍾

Our grrrl was an entrepreneur, a socialite, and the literal queen of the Harlem Renaissance. 🏙️✨ While her mother, Madam C.J. Walker, built a beauty empire, A’Lelia built a whole MOVEMENT. She knew that Black joy, art, and culture deserved to be celebrated—not just survived. 🎭🎶

She threw legendary parties (think Met Gala before the Met Gala), created safe spaces for Black creatives, and lived her life like she was the main character. And if there’s one thing she showed us, it’s that luxury and leisure are NOT just for the privileged few. 👑🥂

She once said, “Joy is an act of resistance.” 💬 Translation? You don’t have to earn joy—you deserve it just because you exist. So this is your reminder to romanticize your life, take up space, and bask in the soft life you deserve.

#HEYGRRRLFRENNNS, we’re keeping this Who’s That Grrrl? energy rolling because there’s too much Black excellence to fit into one month. 💅🏾✨ Today, we’re giving flowers to Claudia Jones because if anybody understood that Black women deserve to take up space, be heard, and be celebrated, it was her. 🌺💖

Our grrrl was a journalist, activist, and revolutionary who didn’t just talk about justice—she put in the WORK. 📝✊🏾 She knew that oppression doesn’t exist in silos (you can’t fight racism without fighting sexism AND capitalism!) and she was dedicated to making sure Black women weren’t left out of the liberation movement. 📢🙌🏾

And sis didn’t just fight for our rights, she fought for our JOY. 😊🎉 Claudia founded the Caribbean Carnival in the UK because she knew that our culture, our celebration, and our art are all part of the resistance.
She once said: “A people’s art is the genesis of their freedom.” 💬 Meaning? Your story, your voice, and your joy are POWERFUL. Don’t wait for permission to take up space—own it.
