#HEYGRRRLFRENNN Now that are bad mood is totally out of the way, there is nothing stopping us from reaching our greatest and highest good! ….or is there? *Dun dun dunnnnnn* In the past, we have started the conversation about limiting beliefs we may have adopted about ourselves that are preventing us from achieving our greatest and highest selves, but what about the limiting beliefs that we have about self-care in general that could be potentially stopping or slowing down our radical self-care journey? There are probably fifty-leven different sites, sources, and celebs claiming they know about everything under the self-care sun that might leave the average grrrl feeling a little out of place, left behind, or completely overwhelmed because their self-care practices don’t look like a scene out of a Hollywood movie. It’s soo easy to feel discouraged about pouring back into yourself when you are just figuring out how to and all you have for reference is your lifetime consumption of profit before people advice created by “the man” when really you should’ve been listening to your grrrl! So today, I want to play a lil game of Radical Self-Care MythBusters so that we can finally push the pedal to the metal on our greatest and highest good! Get in Grrrl!
Myth #1: Self-Care is Expensive AF
Jetsetting to Europe, flying first class with a bottle of champagne, being fed grapes dipped in gold by that model who bought you a diamond necklace to remember the night you both first met sounds like a self-care DREAM, and for some lucky grrrls, it’s life. But for the rest of us, I am here to tell you that self-care DOES also exist outside of this luxurious bubble, and it’s totally attainable even for those who can’t afford a flight to Europe, or champagne, or even grapes! Wine not?? Your radical self-care journey is as expensive as you want it to be. Just because the funds aren’t always there doesn’t mean that the fun isn’t! I am never going to be the grrrlfriend to tell you to chill, so my advice here is that if you’ve got it, FLAUNT IT! And by got it, I mean you can have fun and still afford to survive (rent, food, gas, bills, all the important boring stuff), and by flaunt it, I absolutely mean TREAT YO SELFFFF! But if you don’t got it, I completely get it and I’m right there with you but you can still have some radical self-care fun for free! For example, doing affirmations, breath work, stretching, and connecting with your inner child are all budget-friendly ways to pour back into yourself while you’re saving up for big ticket fun! True self-care is more than just materialistic pleasures. It encompasses nurturing your mind, body, and soul in ways that promote long-term well-being.
Myth #2: Self-Care Takes Long AF
Where all my girlies with commitment issues at?? Because same! I know myself well enough to realize that I can be a little impatient…. and maybe a little inconsistent… and when things feel like they are taking forever and a day, anD IT’S TOTALLY NOT FAIR BECAUSE I AM LITERALLY TRYING MY BEST… I tend to blow up and then eventually lose interest and stop trying. If this sounds like you or you have had similar feelings towards spotty wifi connection, slow walkers, or long lines in the grocery store you might also be a tad impatient! Welcome to the club grrrl, we have jackets! Listen, I get it! Time is a valuable thing to waste, but when it comes to radical self-care we have to learn to shift our perspective. When you are pouring back into yourself, you are not wasting time, you are investing it, and there is nothing better to invest in than yourself! Of course, this mind shift takes time, so in the meantime, if you need a little hit of instant gratification, you’ll have to find it in the little things like taking your bra off after a long day of work or finding other quick ways to practice radical self-care like putting on a popping playlist, connecting with friends, or practicing gratitude!
Myth #3: Self-Care Is Selfish AF
This one right here!! Oooh! The way that people will start to convince you to continue to care less for yourself because it leaves more room for you to care about them! Grrrls, if anyone is trying to keep you from feeling better, happier, healthier, and safer by using the line that “SELf cARE iS LiKE ToTALLy seLFiSh” please know that that is a complete myth! And they are a certified HATER! Consistently prioritizing and practicing self-care is an act of self-love and self-respect. Also, not that it’s anyone’s business but taking care of our own needs actually allows us to better show up for others in a more meaningful and sustainable way. Why do you think airplanes want you to put your oxygen mask on first before you help others? Because you can’t enjoy being fed gold dipped grapes by a model in first class if you are passed out! And also, you can’t continue to pour into others if you have nothing left to give. Outside of other people’s expectations and demands for you, the bigger picture is that caring about yourself is not selfish. You should feel firmly rooted in your relationship with yourself. If you aren’t there yet, that’s perfectly okay, remember it is a work in progress! If you needed a sign to spend some guilt-free grrrl time with yourself, this is it!
Grrrls, you are a prize. You are absolutely amazing, and to know you is to love you! Access to your time, space, body, feelings, thoughts, and life in general is a privilege. It is important to continue to establish and grow this core relationship with ourselves and get to know ourselves as best as possible because when you don’t know who you are or what you like, you are susceptible to people who will try to convince you to expect less than what you are worth. Anyone who makes you feel bad for tapping into your own energy and living in your own light is not a person who has your best interest in mind. We are all making such immense progress in reaching our greatest and highest good, i can literally feel it. No, seriously, I just got a chill! Overcoming these self-care myths is just another step in our transformation! So, now that we’ve finally let go of the misconceptions, we can restart our radical self-care journey with renewed clarity, intention, and authenticity. After all, you deserve it.
